Minutes: Mrs. Denise Adams, Deputy Superintendent, clarified the changes to the Class Room Assistant positions and discussed funding reduction information included in the revised staff allocations for 2008-2009 and 2009-2010.  There were eight (8) speakers to this item.

45. Revised Budget Reduction List

Minutes: 

The Superintendent postponed action on  item #20 (D.R.O.P.) from the revised Budget Reduction List until further negotiations with staff and teacher groups.  Mr. Van Zant postponed discussion on item #19 (personal appliances) until the next Board meeting.

Mr. Van Zant provided a Powerpoint presentation on the topic "Shorter School Year".  Discussion on operating costs, savings and flexibility to the district followed.  Staff will take a broader look at this presentation and provide feedback at the Clay County School Board Meeting in April.

47. Liz Crane, CCEA

Minutes: Liz Crane spoke briefly on the budget crisis and encouraged everyone to contact their legislators on seeking other revenue sources for education and stopping unfunded mandates.  She also reminded everyone of the rally at Orange Park High School on Friday, March 27th.

Minutes: Ken Carter spoke on budget cuts to support positions.

Superintendent Requests
49. Announcements

Minutes: 
  • The Education Foundation is sponsoring a "Grownups Day to Play" at O2B Kids on Fleming Island on Sunday, March 29th from 5:00-8:00 p.m.  Tickets are available through Darlene Mahla, or at the door.  All proceeds go to teachers, employees and classrooms.
  • Will be in Tallahassee, March 25-27, 2009, meeting with Legislators. Read an announcement received from the Florida Association of District School Superintendents that the Governor has announced a 15% holdback of the 4th quarter distribution of the general revenue state funds, which means a 2% cut before the end of this school year.

 


School Board's Requests
50. Comments

Minutes: 
  • Mrs. Vallencourt gave a short overview of the rally in Tallahassee last week and expressed her desire for everyone to continue to call and write the Legislators regarding other sources of funding for our schools.
  • Mrs. Vallencourt requested the School Board to invite Dr. Wayne Blanton and Mr. Mark McKinney to the April 16, 2009 School Board meeting to present the Florida School Boards Insurance Trust (F.S.B.I.T.)  insurance program. 
  • Mrs. Studdard encouraged everyone to support the rally at Orange Park High on March 27th. 
  • Mr. Farrell offered possible sources of additional funding (1 cent sales tax, cigarette tax, repeal of Amendment 1).
  • Mrs. Graham reminded everyone about the "Fun Day" at 02B Kids on March 29th.
